Make the Volume Buttons Control Ringtones Again in Android Pie
-
OK, this is a flake of a bluster then I apologise. Afterwards some searching, I appear to exist the only person who finds this abrasive - surely that tin can't be the case. What is up with the change in the way the volume controls work in Android Pie? It has fabricated what was a background control (something I never even idea about) into something EXTREMELY annoying.
I accept a Pixel 2 Forty, when it was running Oreo, the volume controls were totally logical. When I arrived at my desk at work in the morning, I would lower the ring book to vibrate by simply pressing the downwards volume button. This would lower the ringtone volume because the phone recognised that I had no media playing. Conversely, if I was listening to Spotify or watching a YouTube video and I pressed the volume command buttons, the media volume would change (the telephone recognised that media was playing and rightly assumed that I would exist adjusting that volume). In either of those instances, if I wanted to accommodate a dissimilar volume, I just hitting the drop downwards menu and I was presented with all the bachelor book options. This also worked for adjusting my Sonos volume (this icon seems to have disappeared and been replaced with a Chromecast icon), or for adjusting in-call volume. In other words it was dynamic - the OS fabricated the default volume the thing that was being used at the time - if goose egg was being used it would default to ringtone volume.
Now it is just assault media book- how is this an improvement? Even if I was someone who constantly consumed media on my phone, the old way was better (media volume is still controlled by default when information technology is playing). Withal, it is not uncommon that yous might want to change your ringtone volume, or make other adjustments, and so now you have to click the volume button and and so quickly click into the expandable volume menu to change the ringtone volume. To brand this even more abrasive, when I do adjust information technology in this annoying fiddly menu, it and so sets off the ring tone to demonstrate the volume level!
Somehow, Google is trying to say this is a feature that people want! Am I missing something here?! It IS VERY ANNOYING - GOOGLE PLEASE FIX THIS!

That may piece of work to completely go rid of the ringer, merely many times I only want to lower the volume of my ringer and text notification sounds. If I exercise what is suggested here, I won't accept any audio at all! Is there whatever way easily lower the book of the ringer and text notifications without totally silencing the phone? It's very annoying to accept to now accept several steps to do what only took 1 step before!

Ah yes I never do that. If I want to lower it -- it goes to vibrate. If I want a ring I want it to really band hence me leaving information technology the same.

It isn't the case - there accept been lots of other complaints most this change, all the manner dorsum to the first Beta version of Pie.
I happen to find the modify in defaults annoying also, particularly the part where I manually modify the ringtone book and information technology feels that it'due south necessary to play the tone.
I provided my negative feedback during the Beta and again in this released version but I don't look to see a change forthcoming.08-28-2018 02:03 PM

I mentioned my distaste for this change in another thread and at least one person poo-poohed it saying that the new way is the way people accept wanted it, equally evidenced by at that place being apps in the Play Store to specifically change the default adapted volume to the media volume at all times.

Exactly. The fashion it's always been for me is this:
Media playing - volume rocker controls media volume
no media playing - volume rocker controls ring volume08-28-2018 04:09 PM

That'south exactly what I do! The offset few days were confusing, but now that I'1000 used to information technology, it's non really all that bad.

I'one thousand a large fan of profiles like CyanogenMod used to accept. I've honestly ever hated the book setup in Android on the whole. I similar a low book for work, loud in the machine or when I'm out, and a medium at home. And so I tin can striking vibrate silence when I need it.
I use an app chosen trigger to do it for me. When I get in the machine my ringer and media volumes go up. When I go out and it disconnects it goes back to medium. When I put my headset on at piece of work it turns the ringer down to i so I tin can still hear notifications simply it'southward non obnoxious.
It's probably more work but when it's all setup the only time I have to worry most my volume is when I demand to go completely silent.

Worse, DND doesn't even seem to be honored all the fourth dimension. I swear my phone still makes ******* dissonance when the DND icon is on. And at present, the settings screen has four different volume slide bars. This is the dumbest ******* user interface design always created. It should piece of work the old style, and so take a setting for people to enable this garbage for the weirdos that apparently are the jerks that have their telephone brand noise when they are at a broadway show.

I hate that in that location aren't volume profiles. I like a low volume for piece of work (because vibrate doesn't always alarm me), loud in the car or when out and virtually, medium at home.
I've been searching for a new one. The i I used to use doesn't work in pie. Is this it? https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....audioprofiles
